Empowering individuals with knowledge, services, and rights for healthy lives
Sexual and reproductive health is a fundamental human right, yet millions of Nigerians lack access to essential information and services. At Care-Aid and Peace Foundation, our Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) program is transforming lives by ensuring that young people, women, and men across Nigeria have the knowledge, tools, and healthcare services they need to make informed decisions about their bodies, relationships, and futures.
Operating across 8 states—Edo, Delta, Rivers, Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Kaduna, and Abuja—our comprehensive SRH program has reached over 85,000 individuals with life-changing interventions that reduce maternal mortality, prevent unintended pregnancies, combat STIs including HIV/AIDS, and promote gender equality and bodily autonomy.
"When young people have accurate information and access to services, they can build healthier futures for themselves and their communities."
Access to quality family planning is essential for maternal health, child wellbeing, and poverty reduction. Our family planning program provides:
Since 2020, we've provided family planning services to over 28,000 women and men, preventing an estimated 12,000 unintended pregnancies and contributing to significant reductions in maternal mortality in our program areas.
Chioma, a 24-year-old mother of three from Delta State, was pregnant with her fourth child when she attended our family planning session. She learned about long-acting reversible contraceptives and, after counseling, chose an implant. "I can now space my children and pursue my education," she shares. "My health has improved, and I'm planning to start a business. I wish I had this information years ago."
Knowledge is power. Our age-appropriate, evidence-based sexuality education programs equip young people with critical life skills:
Curriculum-integrated lessons in 150+ secondary schools covering puberty, anatomy, reproduction, contraception, STIs, consent, healthy relationships, and gender equality. Teachers receive specialized training to deliver sensitive topics with confidence.
Community-based sessions reaching young people not enrolled in school through youth centers, religious organizations, and vocational training programs, ensuring no one is left behind.
Workshops equipping parents with skills and confidence to have open, age-appropriate conversations with their children about sexuality, puberty, and relationships.
Youth-friendly website and social media channels providing accurate information, myth-busting, and confidential Q&A, reaching thousands of young people online.
Our CSE programs have reached over 45,000 young people aged 10-24, with studies showing participants demonstrate significantly improved knowledge, more positive attitudes about gender equality, and greater likelihood of using contraception when sexually active.
Adolescence is a critical period requiring specialized health services. Our adolescent health initiatives include:
Aminat, 17, from Kano State, is one of our 200+ trained peer educators. "Before this program, my friends and I didn't understand our bodies or how to protect ourselves," she explains. "Now I educate other girls about menstruation, contraception, and standing up against early marriage. I've helped 15 girls stay in school instead of dropping out due to pregnancy or forced marriage. This program changed my life and is helping me change others'."
Nigeria has one of the highest HIV burdens globally, and STIs remain a significant public health challenge. Our prevention programs include:
Through our HIV/STI prevention program, we've conducted over 35,000 HIV tests, identified 850 HIV-positive individuals and linked 98% to treatment, distributed 2.5 million condoms, and treated 4,200 STI cases. In our program areas, we've contributed to a 35% reduction in new HIV infections among youth aged 15-24.
