Breaking the cycle of violence and empowering survivors across Nigeria
Gender-based violence (GBV) remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations in Nigeria, affecting women, girls, and vulnerable populations across all states. At Care-Aid and Peace Foundation, we are committed to creating a Nigeria free from violence through comprehensive prevention programs, survivor support services, and community transformation initiatives.
Since our inception, we have reached over 15,000 individuals across Edo, Delta, Rivers, Lagos, Katsina, Kano, and Kaduna states with life-saving interventions that address the root causes of violence while providing immediate support to those who have experienced abuse.
"Every survivor deserves safety, dignity, and justice. Our work ensures that no one faces violence alone."
We operate three fully-equipped safe houses in Benin City, Port Harcourt, and Lagos, providing immediate refuge for women and children fleeing violent situations. Our shelters offer:
Blessing, a 28-year-old mother of two from Edo State, arrived at our shelter after years of domestic violence. Through our comprehensive support program, she received counseling, legal aid, vocational training, and business startup support. Today, Blessing runs a successful tailoring business and has secured permanent safe housing for her family. She now volunteers with our community awareness team, helping other survivors find their path to healing.
Healing from trauma requires professional, compassionate care. Our team of licensed counselors and trauma specialists provides:
In 2024 alone, our counselors provided over 3,500 counseling sessions to survivors across Nigeria, helping them process trauma, rebuild self-esteem, and develop coping strategies for long-term healing.
Prevention is at the heart of our strategy. We work directly with communities to change attitudes, behaviors, and social norms that perpetuate violence:
Interactive discussions with men, women, youth, and elders addressing harmful practices, gender equality, and healthy relationships. We've facilitated over 200 dialogues reaching 8,000+ community members.
Age-appropriate curricula teaching consent, respect, healthy boundaries, and bystander intervention to students in 75 schools across six states.
Radio programs, social media content, and community theater performances reaching millions with messages about prevention, survivor support, and where to seek help.
Training men and boys as advocates and role models, challenging toxic masculinity, and promoting positive male engagement in violence prevention.
Access to justice is a fundamental right. Our legal team ensures survivors can navigate the justice system effectively:
Through our legal advocacy program, we have successfully supported 450+ survivors in obtaining justice, including 120 convictions of perpetrators and 280 protection orders issued.
Our advocacy efforts contributed to the passage of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act in Edo State and strengthened implementation of the national VAPP Act. We continue to advocate for:
